Geberit’s story in Switzerland began all the way back in 1874 with a plumber named Caspar Melchior Gebert. Initially, he started a plumbing business in Rapperswil, Switzerland, but by 1905, his ambitions grew. He decided to take things a step further and delve into manufacturing parts for the plumbing industry himself.
This marked a turning point for Geberit. In the same year, they introduced the “Phoenix,” a revolutionary toilet cistern that made a huge splash. Made of lead-coated wood and featuring lead fittings, the Phoenix was unlike anything seen before. But what truly set it apart was its brand new flushing mechanism – the first of its kind! This innovation helped establish Geberit as a leader in sanitary technology.
Sadly, Caspar Melchior Gebert passed away in 1909. However, his sons, Albert and Leo, were determined to ensure their father’s legacy continued. They took over the business and steered it towards further growth. In the years that followed, Geberit focused on expanding its reach within Switzerland. Through strategic moves and continued innovation, they solidified their position as a key player in the Swiss plumbing industry, paving the way for their future international success.
